CSEE’s Outreach activities have kicked into high gear again now that the summer break is over. Our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) – “21st Century Energy Transition – How do We Make it Work?” (https://www.coursera.org/learn/21st-century-energy-transition?) has been online for one year, and has been a great success, with more than 4100 students enrolled. It continues to garner widespread interest, top star ratings and rave reviews. We are currently working on an update for the MOOC, as the energy world moves so quickly that year-old information is sometimes old news! News from Cenovus Energy
Avatar Innovations, a Calgary-based innovator in the global energy transition, announced the launch of the Avatar Leadership Fund I with a $750,000 lead investment from Cenovus Energy late last year. The Fund is targeting a $3 million total raise to provide early-stage risk capital to emerging energy transition technologies developed through the Avatar Program. The goal of the Fund is to help solve for the near absence of risk capital available to early-stage energy technologies in Canada. Since 2021, Avatar has generated nearly 1600 applications from industry professionals to participate in its ground-breaking energy transition and technology entrepreneurship program.

Energy Ambassador Program The Energy Evolution is here. Emerging leaders championing Environmental, Social, and Governance are driving credibility, and businesses need an energy roadmap to navigate the energy transition. The Energy Ambassadors program is designed to extend relationships throughout the industry, champion all energy industry sectors, and support the next generation of leaders around which the energy evolution can coalesce. Providing mentorship from global business leaders and leading academics, the program looks to develop answers to critical industry challenges and help delegates develop genuine relationships within the energy industry to sustain and support the energy transition. CSEE 2022 Annual Report
Your Society achieved several significant accomplishments in 2022. We weathered the storm of COVID and emerged in a strong financial position, ready to continue to serve our members and our industry. We changed our name on October 1st to the Canadian Society for Evolving Energy, and we also launched our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in the same month. U of C PES Industry Mixer
The University of Calgary's Petroleum & Energy Society (PES) held its winter session industry mixer on March 29. Wally Kozak, past chair, attended the event on behalf of CSEE. The event was centered on a panel Q&A session. Representatives of five energy focused entities spanning upstream oil and gas, clean-teach, midstream & services were questioned on energy-career issues. While each of the panelists brought their own experiences and perspectives forward there was consistency in the responses. Questions included: changes in the energy sector over the past decade; the importance of field work early in one's career; transferability of skills
