Bill's Bio
Bill Whitelaw is the Managing Director, Strategy and Sustainability at geoLOGIC Systems and JWN Energy. In this role, he helps shape the company’s focus on the products and services most widely used in Canada’s upstream oil and gas sector. In addition to his CSUR role, Bill is on the steering committee for the Energy Futures Lab, as well as its partner council.
Bill is a graduate of Loyalist College and Queen’s University and holds a master’s degree in communication studies from the University of Calgary.
Working with U of A and CSEE, he developed a Massive Open Online Course “21st Century Energy Transition – How do We Make it Work?”
Brad's Bio
At Petrel Robertson Consulting (PRCL), Brad Hayes leads a professional team with extensive and diverse geoscience and engineering experience in the technical and strategic evaluation of conventional and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. As the industry evolves, PRCL’s work has expanded to include new subsurface ventures ranging from water resources and aquifer evaluations through helium and lithium brine exploration to geothermal assessments.
Brad holds a Ph.D. (Geology) from the University of Alberta, and a B.Sc. (Geology) from the University of Toronto. He worked as an exploration geologist for 15 years in Calgary before joining PRCL in 1996. Brad is a Professional Geologist registered in Alberta (APEGA), B.C. (EGBC), and Nova Scotia (APGNS), and served on APEGA Council for six years. Brad has been a CSPG and AAPG member for more than 40 years, and served as CSPG President in 2001. He is an Adjunct Professor in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta, a sessional petroleum geology instructor at Mount Royal University, and a fellow of Geoscientists Canada.
Colleen is passionate about continuous learning and is driven to be a change champion in support of Canada’s energy future.
Colleen's Bio
Colleen Sherry is the inaugural Vice President, Sustainability, at GLJ LTD. In her role, she supports GLJ’s expanding strategic advisory capacity in decarbonization, energy transition, ESG reporting, responsible production certification, and emerging technologies.
Colleen is a sustainability, geotechnical and business strategy specialist with more than 25 years of operational and leadership experience, largely in the energy and natural resource extraction sectors. She worked as an exploration geologist for more than 20 years before transitioning to sustainability and ESG. Her expertise has supported unconventional resource development and client sustainability strategy assessment and adoption in numerous jurisdictions worldwide.
Colleen has a BSc in Geology with a minor in Geophysics from the University of Calgary, an MSc in Earth Sciences from the University of Ottawa, an MBA jointly from Queen’s University and Cornell University, and an MSL (Master of Sustainability Leadership) from Arizona State University. In addition to her role with GLJ, Colleen serves as an Academic Associate with the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University. She is a member of the CSPG and the ISSP (International Society of Sustainability Professionals).
She is on the BOD for Hudson Resources Inc., Saltworks Technologies, CSEE and is a member of the Steering Committee for the CRIN.
Ms. Phillips has 30+ years of professional experience in the energy industry.
Donna's Bio
Donna Phillips has over thirty years of professional experience in business with particular focus in the areas of finance, ESG, Indigenous engagement, business development, government relations, stakeholder/ community relations and land negotiations in the energy industry. Ms. Phillips is the Executive Vice President, Corporate Development of Pacific Canbriam Energy Limited, a company with an organic natural gas growth story now producing >45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Prior to joining Canbriam in 2007, Donna held the position of Director and Vice President, Land at Direct Energy/Centrica Canada Ltd. She began her oil and gas career in Finance at SaskOil, following which she worked in Corporate Planning, Asset Management and Land at Wascana Energy/CanOxy (now Nexen/CNOOC).
Ms. Phillips is Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for Geoscience BC. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Hudson Resources Inc. , Saltworks Technologies, Canadian Society of Unconventional Resources (CSUR) and is a member of the Steering Committee for the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN).
Ms. Phillips holds a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina, a CPA CMA certification and the Institute of Corporate Directors Director designation (ICD.D).
She has experiences in Upstream exploration, development and operations, and LNG development in Shell.
She has extraordinary passion for geothermal business and people development and broad integrated energy evolution.
Hong's Bio
Dr. Hong Yang is a registered professional geologist with more than 20 years of diverse industry experience around the world. She holds a Doctoral Degree in Applied Geology from Technical University of Delft in The Netherlands.
Dr. Yang has held senior management positions in Upstream exploration, development and operations, LNG development and Renewable Energy business development in Shell. She has extraordinary passion for the geothermal business development and broad energy evolution.
Dr. Yang has previously served as a Board Director of Burgess Shales Geoscience Foundation. She is also founder and 1st President of Calgary Peking University Alumni Association.
Stuart's Bio
Stuart Torr is the CEO of Integrated Sustainability, an employee-owned sustainable infrastructure company delivering solutions for waste, water and energy in Canada, the United States and the Caricom region. His project experience extends all stages of project delivery, including project management, design, construction, start-up, turnover, and optimization.
Stuart holds a Masters in Civil an Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom, and has lived in Alberta for over 20 years. He is an advocate for sustainable water, waste and energy management and is an active partner in the energy community, helping leadership define project life cycle requirements and build connections to realize the potential of the energy transition.
He has dedicated his career to provide creative, holistic and sustainable solutions to challenges in engineering and science. Through this work he has helped to challenge regulatory strategies, drive industry efficiencies and promote improvements towards long-term strategic and sustainable solutions. He has been honoured with various esteemed awards including, APEGA Summit Award, Oil Weekly Rising Stars, the ATB Calgary Small Business of the Year Award, the Water Management Company of the Year Award Canada, and recently the Top 100 Small and Medium Employers Canada.

Wally has a B.Sc. Chem Eng from the U of Alberta and is a Councilor of APEGA.
He is a Director and Past Chair of the CSEE Board of Directors.
Wally's Bio
Wally Kozak has over 30 years of broad engineering experience in the oil and gas industry – with both operating and service companies. Prior to being appointed Director of Industry and Government Relations with Calfrac, Wally was Chief Engineer, Global Services with the company. From the operating side, Wally has over twenty years of production engineering, well completions and workover experience, complemented by several years of production operations, midstream operations, business development, and acquisitions/divestiture activity. This experience was gained with BP, both in Canada and the UK North Sea, and with other operators in Europe and the Former Soviet Union. Wally has a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. Currently, he is a Director and Past Chair of the CSEE Board of Directors.
